In September 2008, Ontario hospitals started publishing their monthly rate of Clostridium difficile associated disease. This rate was the first of eight patient safety indicators reported by the hospitals.
In December that same year, two new indicators were added, namely MRSA and VRE bacteremias.
For April 2009, four new indicators are now available, namely central line infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia, surgical site infection prevention and hand hygiene.
