Infection Control
Infection Control…it’s everybody’s business!
Infection Control is a major concern in every hospital. This is why Hôpital Montfort has implemented a program for the prevention and control of infections that uses the best practices in this field.
Hand Hygiene
Hand hygiene is the most effective way of preventing the spread of infections.
You can help us to prevent infections by washing your hands often and encouraging your visitors to do so when they come to visit.
Health workers are aware of the importance of hand hygiene. If one of them forgets to wash his or her hands before caring for you, remind them nicely. It’s your right and your health.

Cough etiquette
You can easily prevent the spread of respiratory illness like H1N1 flu by taking simple actions.
If you are coughing or sneezing:
- Cover your nose and mouth
- Use tissues to contain secretions and throw the tissues into a garbage immediately after use.
- Encourage coughing into elbow if tissues are not immediately available
- Clean your hands (using an alcohol hand rub or soap and water) for 15 seconds after sneezing, coughing, or any contact with respiratory secretions from yourself or others, including children.
The widespread use of antibiotics can promote the development of bacteria that are resistant to the drugs used to treat infections. Hôpital Montfort’s Infection Control Services has a surveillance program to ensure the control of these drug-resistant bacteria.
In the context of this surveillance program, hospitalized patients must provide rectal and nasal swabs.
You will be advised if your samples show the presence of drug-resistant bacteria. Precautionary measures will then be taken to prevent its spread such as your transfer to another room.
