Medicine
The Medicine Program, the hospital’s largest clinical grouping, includes three units and a total of 72 beds. It provides a wide range of care and services including general medicine, geriatrics, cardiology, internal medicine, respirology, gastroenterology, hematology and neurology.
In most cases, family physicians deliver the care and services in these units. Family physicians have always played a major role in the life of the hospital based on Montfort’s philosophy of adopting a community approach to healthcare. The Medicine Program however also relies on the expertise of many specialists.
Doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners and other health professionals as well as orderlies and administrative staff all work as members of a large, integrated team for the sole benefit of the patient.
As a key participant in Hôpital Montfort's academic and research mission, the Medicine Program contributes to the evolution of healthcare in Canada. Students in medicine, nursing and other health professions are always present. Many members of the clinical team also participate in various research projects in partnership with the University of Ottawa and other organizations.
The Medicine Program also includes an Internal Rehabilitation Unit for admitted patients.
