It is a great honour and privilege to preside over the Hôpital Montfort Association and Board of Trustees. Montfort is at an important turning point in its history, having undergone a major transformation at all levels. The expanded range of community services improves access to quality care. Our experienced team cares about continuous quality improvement and the safety of care. Through the adoption of best practices and the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment, we offer high-quality programs and services.
In addition to its clinical services, Montfort has made a name for itself through its college- and university-level teaching activities and through the development of its health research institute, the Institut de Recherche de l’Hôpital Montfort. Many students, future doctors and residents benefit from the clinical and workplace training in French, delivered by committed and dedicated physicians and health professionals. The new generation is in good hands.
In January of this year, the Board of Trustees adopted a strategic plan for 2011 to 2015. We are aiming to become the community’s “hospital of choice” by focusing on excellent personalized patient care, the quality of our workplace and our teaching and research.
Transparency and the modernization of our governance are not only my priorities, but priorities of the entire Board of Trustees. Over the coming months, we are going to review our operations, our responsibilities, the number of members on our committees and the mandate of each committee.
I salute my predecessor, Gilles Morin, who had the wisdom and courage to initiate this reflection and these changes by forming a governance working group. This group will submit its report to the Board in the fall of 2011.
I am fortunate to be working on the Board of Trustees with such a dedicated, dynamic and skilled group of individuals who are ready to take on the challenges facing us. The management team is solidly supported by an outstanding, passionate staff under the leadership of our President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Bernard Leduc, and by a group of loyal and caring physicians under our Chief of Staff, Dr. Guy Moreau.
This transformation is and always will be a living symbol of Ontario’s Francophonie. We take great pride in this accomplishment.
