Montfort Hospital - Hopital Montfort

Message from the President and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Bernard Leduc
President and Chief
 Executive Officer

Thanks to the investment and commitment of the Government of Ontario, Hôpital Montfort has over the past few years been transformed into a 750,000 square foot facility, and now has double its initial floor space. Montfort has state-of-the-art equipment, spacious and modern rooms as well as an experienced team of physicians and health professionals committed to offering the best of care.

During the 2011-2012 fiscal year, we will be taking a look at a number of priorities. These priorities include continuously improving care and services, participating in Phase 1 of the Orléans Family Health Hub and implementing the 2011–2015 Strategic Plan. Another priority is to secure official recognition as a teaching hospital from the Government of Ontario.

Ongoing improvement in the quality of care
Although our current goal is to improve access to our services, one of our key priorities is to continuously improve the quality of care. Our staff is constantly reviewing best practices and applying new and effective ways of serving our patients and their loved ones. In April 2011, visitors from Accreditation Canada noted that our institution had achieved a 95% compliance rate in terms of meeting standards.

The Board of Trustees adopted a Quality Improvement Plan that contains improvement initiatives, performance indicators and targets. We are working together to achieve the outcomes in this plan. According to an independent polling firm hired by Montfort, NRC Picker Canada, the satisfaction rating of patients who have undergone day surgery was 99.5 percent! Furthermore, the satisfaction rating achieved for the other dimensions of care was 88.1 percent. I am proud that Hôpital Montfort has received high satisfaction ratings in each of the six categories surveyed, and that is one of the best-performing hospitals in the province.

Orléans Family Health Hub
On August 12, the Government of Ontario announced the allocation of $60 million to finance the construction of Phase 1 of the Orléans Family Health Hub. This is great news for Montfort and its partners in this wonderful project, as well as for the residents of Greater Orleans.

This first phase is an important step towards the implementation of the overall vision of the Hub, presented to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care in 2010.

Implementing the Strategic Plan
In January 2011, the Board of Trustees adopted the 2011–2015 Strategic Plan, which redefines our mission, our vision and our values. Five major strategic directions will help Montfort become the hospital of choice. We are working on the implementation plan, which defines the steps required to achieve our objectives and the indicators for measuring our progress.

Teaching and research role
For the past several years, Hôpital Montfort has distinguished itself as one of Ontario’s major university medical centres. Students and residents in the French stream of the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine receive high quality clinical training in French through the commitment and dedication of our physicians and health professionals. In order for Montfort to continue to fully carry out its teaching and research role in a French-speaking community, it needs support from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, beginning with an official designation as a university teaching hospital. So this matter is a very high on our list of priorities.

Dedicated staff in pursuit of excellence
In closing, I would like to thank all the members of my team who have put their heart and soul into making Montfort what it is today. I also want to thank all of the doctors, employees, volunteers, residents and students for their dedication and commitment. They work tirelessly and compassionately for the well-being of our patients and their families. It is a privilege to lead such a dynamic and competent team that is continually striving for excellence.
